Avery Hernandez, Big Avery to most folks, started working in a kitchen in Port Aransas when he was twelve. Later on, at Dockside Bar and Grill, he came up with the Western Omelet, the Shrimp Omelet, and the Chicken Enchiladas.
In 2011 Avery and his family opened the first Avery's Kitchen in Port Aransas. People came back for the big fluffy omelets, the homemade hashbrowns, and shrimp breaded by hand. Hurricane Harvey destroyed that restaurant in 2017, and the family later brought Avery's Kitchen here to New Braunfels.
Today it's still a family kitchen. Avery and Sandra run it with their son Little Avery and their daughters Nina S. Muniz and Lorine Hernandez.
